In a world where connection and collaboration are more essential than ever, the World Café method offers a warm and inclusive way to foster dialogue, spark ideas, and surface the deeper questions that shape our communities and organizations.
WHAT IS THE WORLD CAFÉ?
The World Café is a structured yet informal conversational process designed to facilitate open dialogue and shared learning. It’s ideal for the divergent phase of a workshop or strategic session, when the goal is to broaden perspectives, invite curiosity, and engage collective intelligence. Inspired by the atmosphere of a cozy coffee shop or a familiar kitchen table, this method helps people reflect, connect, and co-create meaning together.
HOW IT WORKS
Participants gather around small tables in groups of four, with large sheets of paper and markers available to doodle, draw, and take notes. The discussion is guided by three rounds of open-ended questions that evolve in depth and clarity. After each round, participants rotate to a new table, while one person—the Table Host—remains to share highlights from the previous conversation.
This pattern of movement and sharing leads to cross-pollination of ideas, allowing themes and insights to emerge organically across the room. At the end, participants harvest key learnings together, often capturing insights with Post-it notes, visual mapping, or gallery walks.
