Many workplaces still operate within traditional hierarchical structures\u2014models that rank individuals by authority, function, and influence. According to <\/span>Larousse<\/span><\/i> (2020), hierarchy refers to \u201can organization that ranks people\u2026 each level corresponding to a degree of power, responsibility, competence, or dignity.\u201d But what if meaningful collaboration isn\u2019t limited to flat organizations or teams with formal permission to innovate?<\/span><\/p>\n

At O Strategies, we believe that collaboration can flourish anywhere\u2014even within systems not originally designed for it.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>

COLLABORATIVE LEADERSHIP WITHIN HIERARCHY<\/p>

Even in environments with clear reporting lines, collaborative practices and individual leadership can emerge organically. These practices invite every team member to contribute their strengths and lived experiences in ways that support the broader mission.<\/span><\/p>\n

Just as birds migrate and bears hibernate instinctively, people can self-organize to get things done\u2014especially when they feel ownership and trust within their teams.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>

    REAL-WORLD EXPERIENCE<\/p>

    While working in a post-secondary institution, I experienced this firsthand. Our team instinctively shared facilitation duties, co-managed meeting agendas, and distributed tasks based on strengths and interest. We didn\u2019t need formal permission\u2014we just practiced mutual respect, curiosity, and alignment with our shared goals.<\/span><\/p>\n
